in and on stone

Something I think about frequently in the studio is “evidence of process”: What kinds of clues can I leave on my pots in order to keep whoever is using them curious about how they came to be? What marks or textures should I reveal/conceal in order to intrigue and invite use?

Natural landscapes are teeming with these marks and textures, each a small clue about the conditions/histories/events that created them. Here are some images of “evidence” that have piqued my curiosity and inspired me to consider these clues in my own work.
